An Update: Highlands Hill

Hello everyone. It’s been a shockingly long time since I’ve posted here! But no news is good news in many respects–life has been humming along and the limited amount of writing I’ve done has been happening elsewhere. I am so full of gratitude to God for his kindness to our family as (some of) our children grow to adults. The Lord has given me good work to do every day and I’m trying not to take it for granted.

Two things to mention by way of update: First, you may already know I’ve had two books published since the last time I posted. The first book is Bread of Life, a devotional on the theme of bread in the Scripture with 11 bread recipes! This book was so much fun to work on and it has been just a total delight to see women learning to bake bread as they meditate on Jesus, our bread of life.

The second book is A Student’s Guide to Womanhood, which is a very short book to help middle school, high school, and college age women understand the purpose and design of womanhood. I hope it’s helpful and builds up the body of Christ and protects many young women from the poisonous ideology being fed to them about who and what they’re for.

The second update is a new venture my girls and I are undertaking–it’s our home bakery that we’re calling Highlands Hill (which is the name of our home). Over the last several years, our daughters have dabbled in selling baked goods during the summer, then at our church’s Christmas craft fair, and as their skills have grown, we decided to make it official by opening a storefront online. Over time, we hope to add a variety of items (both new baked goods and home products), and to provide shipping. We’ll see how it goes! For now, we’re offering local pick-up at our home in Lake Elmo, MN for our Scandinavian and specialty baked goods.

If you are local and interested, don’t hesitate to reach out! You can make special order requests on the contact page of our little online store.

Lastly, I just want to say may God bless you in the new year. So much has happened in our world over the last five years. I’ve noticed this has either made people fearful and a bit flinch-y, or it’s deepened their roots in the Lord and made them more stable, more joyful, and more firm in the faith. And I just want you to know it’s never too late to join that latter group–to put all your hope and trust in the Lord, to smile at what’s coming down the pike because you know the God who numbers your days. May he put laughter in your throat in 2024, may he make your trials seem small in comparison to his goodness. May you wield the weapon of joy in the Lord as you march forward by faith.
